Efficient Subsea Fiber Diagnostics

Caltex Oil Tools offers a high resolution Subsea Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) on board an ROV to perform subsea fiber optic testing. This can come in two forms, subsea DAS Commissioning and subsea fiber optic diagnostics.

SUBSEA DAS COMMISSIONING

Caltex’s Subsea DAS Commissioning characterizes the loss profile of each connector through the Optical Feedthrough System (OFS). Once the connection is made through the OFS, Caltex can then reach the DAS Fiber to further characterize the loss. Our systems scan the entire length of downhole fiber to locate breaks and ensure performance to customer specifications.

SUBSEA FIBER OPTIC DIAGNOSTICS

The Caltex subsea OTDR provides high-accuracy diagnostic data on optical fibers, allowing for scanning distances of up to 50 miles. This high-resolution data is essential for commissioning and diagnosing subsea fiber optic leads. If a potential loss of communication to subsea systems occurs, Caltex can identify failures onsite within the subsea fiber optic leads. The Caltex instrument can be configured on the surface to manually scan single-mode fiber with up to 8 channels.

SUBSEA FIBER OPTIC TESTING

  • Max length OTDR distance: 50 miles
  • Resolution: up to 20 cm
  • Subsea fiber optic interface connections:
    • SEACON Hydralight optical wet-mate connector
    • Adaptable to other interface connectors
  • 10,000 FSW working depth rated
  • OTDR laser kept at constant temperature to prevent wavelength shifts
  • Small package that can be deployed quickly
